Get High on your own Supply | Meditation Benefits for Brain

The reason why we (Dagný & Eva) like to call ourselves “meditation activists” is because there is nothing that has transformed us more or had a more profound effect on us like regular meditation (and breathwork!). We love to teach it to everyone that is interested! Meditation has been interpreted by many people in many ways, however, when it comes to it, the practice means turning inwards and being willing, to experience all your thoughts and sensory perceptions.

Whether for a fast five minutes every morning or a long hour in the evening, engaging in a daily meditation does amazing things for the human mind, such as relieving built-up anxiety, soothing internal chatter, enhancing concentration, and growing self-esteem as well as feelings of trust. Also there exists a strong relation between Happiness and Meditation. Even though we feel happiness is not the only measurement for a live well lived, it is a attractive state of being. But getting in the daily practice can be the challenge.

Meditation Happiness

To start a practice it is important to see how meditation is the cure all for the mind, as more and more studies show the benefits. Meditation’s main objective is to reach, consider and develop the positive attributes of the mind. The more we can use it, the less we have to depend on our satisfaction in external circumstances, and the more we can focus on the mind’s natural, optimistic qualities: affection, contentment, well-being, and harmony.

Meditation can help rewire the brain

Meditation is the best mental activity, which has the ability to restore the fixed point of your happiness, transforming you into a more joyful individual and actually rewiring big areas in the brain.

Studies by a neuroscientist named Sara Lazar indicated that maintaining a regular practice of meditation contributes to a thickening in some main regions of the brain, which would, in turn, enhances the capacity to cope with unpleasant and demanding circumstances as well as stressful events that life can throw at you.

If you are inherently more predisposed to being excessively worried or stressed out, practicing meditation on the regular basis will relax certain hyperactive areas of the brain, as per the happiness set point principle, and thicken the areas responsible for joy and happiness.

Lazar’s results also reveal that meditation shrinks the part of the brain called the “amygdala.” That’s the area of the mind that regulates anxiety and fear, so the smaller the bad boy is, the happier you will be as a person.

Another research conducted by the National Library of Medicine of the United States National Institutes of Health evaluated 30 medical students before meditation to calculate their levels of cortisol. Cortisol is the hormone that controls the tension in the body, but too much of it can create issues with sleep, depression, and mood changes. Well, the research showed that the cortisol levels of the students dropped substantially after only 4 days of meditation.

Conclusion

In the deepest layer of your being, meditation has the ability to impart a deep sense of peace and tranquility. Happiness and Meditation are interconnected. With everyday practice, it can transform your mindset and health. In your relationships, you will be able to interact more, cope better with the tricky curveballs life throws your way, and also have a stronger sense of self-worth and awareness of your thoughts and tendencies.
